ENTREPRENEUR IN RESIDENCE AT SHEFFIELD HALLAM UNIVERSITY
February 2023
Ashleigh was recently reunited with fellow alumni at Sheffield Hallam University to share their collective experiences to help to inspire and motivate undergraduates, who are taking the next steps in their career.
In her role as Entrepreneur in Residence, Ashleigh was invited to join an industry panel event to discuss the transition from being a student to joining the workforce. They covered a number of topics including what employers are looking for when applying for roles, soft skills that are vital when starting your first role and how transferable skills developed when studying hospitality, tourism and events are optimum to excel in both career and life. They enjoyed lots of meaningful conversations with fellow graduates, faculty members and students.
An employability careers fair took place at the same time as the panel discussions, showcasing a diverse range of hospitality and travel brands, including our clients Kew Green Hotels, as well as our friends at The Goring, Lore Group, The Dorchester Collection, Marriott Hotels & Resorts, Rudding Park Hotel to name a few. Students enjoyed visiting each of the stands to find out about career opportunities.
We would like to send a special thanks to Paul Wyton, Helen Parkin and Dr John Dunning for hosting the event and look forward to continuing to support the students at Sheffield Hallam University.
Commenting on Ashleigh’s role as an Entrepreneur in Residence, Dr John Dunning,
Principal Lecturer, Hospitality Management and Employer and Business Engagement Lead, Department of Service Sector Management, Sheffield Hallam University said:
“Ashleigh does a great job in her Entrepreneur in Residence role at the University. In this capacity, Ashleigh is always so supportive of our hospitality, tourism, and events students, and gives them incredible help as the next generation of industry professionals. Recent examples of this are guest lectures to Masters’ Hospitality Management students and Panel Member and contributor at the Employability Fair, which was attended by students on all levels of study. Ashleigh is also on the Employer Advisory Board, and her insights, experience and knowledge of the hospitality and travel industry are always appreciated and valued.”
Asim Elawad, Graduate, Sheffield Hallam University added
“Ashleigh was a mentor to me when I was a student at Sheffield Hallam University. She has been wonderful and we have built a good relationship since then and long may it continue....I highly recommend any young person meets Ashleigh, she is someone you would want as a lifelong mentor and a supporter."
