Halo Judge at the 2023 StartUp Awards

Halo were delighted to return to the StartUp Awards 2023, after being honoured with the Award for Professional Services StartUp for North East, Yorkshire & The Humber in 2022.

​

This year we were invited to participate as judges, and we were bowled over by the quality of the entries. We never doubted that this region is an inspirational and supportive place to start a new business, but the Start Up Awards have once again reminded us that spotlighting, celebrating and supporting the huge and often unrewarded effort founders make is essential to encourage those who may want to follow their example.

Last year's inaugural edition of the StartUp Awards was hugely significant, as it supported a community of small business owners who have already overcome great odds. It helped build our own confidence, reflect on our successes and highlighted further opportunities for growth within the community and on a national level. Since winning that award, we’ve continued to focus on developing a sales pipeline, and have joined NatWest’s Entrepreneur Accelerator program to support our growth strategy. The Awards also helped us meet future collaborators, including a  fellow finalist whom we now work with to deliver specialist social media services for Halo’s clients.

We thought our work in judging the StartUp Awards was done well before the event itself and looked forward to a relatively relaxed evening, but we were very excited to be asked to present the awards for High Street StartUp and Hospitality & Events StartUp. Both are categories that we have championed in our work with local and national retail and hospitality businesses. We were excited to meet numerous fellow entrepreneurs as well as this year’s finalists. It was fascinating to see that the finalists whose applications best captured their personalities and work ethic in the most authentic way, generally had the most success on the night.

Congratulations to all of the other winners and finalists at this year’s StartUp awards. We look forward to seeing how these businesses continue to grow as they enter their scale up stages.
